Private access is a rare commodity in Wyoming, and this is what The Reef Fly Shop and North Platte Lodge provide exclusively for our fly fishing guests and their guides. In Wyoming the water is public domain, but the land underneath belongs to the private land owner. The Grey Reef section of the North Platte River is mostly private.
Our leases allow us to wade fish and drop our anchors on a whim. Our private access stretches from the dam at Grey Reef to well below Government Bridge, 17 miles exclusively for you.
Alcova, Wyoming is an area vast in angling opportunities. The Sweetwater River, Miracle Mile, Fremont Canyon and Grey Reef are all part of our home waters. Alcova, Pathfinder and Grey Reef Reservoirs are also frequent haunts of our guides. Due to the prime location of The Reef Fly Shop and North Platte Lodge these bodies of water are all within easy striking distance, without donating a majority of your valuable time to driving.
The Grey Reef section of the North Platte River is a stellar trout fishery. During the springtime Grey Reef sees a surge of nonresident guides. When the water level rises and the spawn is over they disappear. Popular belief is that Grey Reef is only productive during this time of year. This belief couldn't be more wrong.
The North Platte River, particularly Grey Reef, is very productive year 'round. But, it requires an experienced guide to show you why the North Platte River is an extraordinary trout fishery. Do yourself a favor and hire a local guide.
