Fremont Canyon Cardwell Access Area
Sechrist to Bessemer Bend

Sechrist to Bessemer Bend is a short float that is mostly on private property. This section is generally regarded as a half-day float and is roughly 5 miles long. It passes through the “Narrows” a canyon like area where the North Platte River parallels Wyoming Hwy 220.

Private property begins shortly after leaving the boat ramp at Sechrist. You will be floating over private property for more than a mile before getting to the public access area at the Narrows. The Narrows is accessed right off of Wyoming Hwy 220. There is not a boat ramp or any other services here. But, good wade fishing is available. At the end of the Narrows you will again be floating over private land until you reach Trappers landing #7 a half mile later on river left. This access is very small and once you leave it you will again be over private ground. Less than 2 miles downriver is the Hartnet Access Area on river right. Hartnet is accessed from Wyoming Hwy 220 by turning onto the South Bessemer road. There is not a ramp at Hartnet. After leaving the Hartnet area you will again be over private property while you fish your way through the channeled section above Speas Fish Hatchery.

Public Access starts on river left adjacent to a concrete piling in the middle of the river. You will be in front of the Wyoming Game and Fish Speas Fish Hatchery. This access is roughly a half mile long. Less than 2 miles downstream is the boat ramp at Bessemer Bend Bridge. The ramp is on river left directly upstream of the bridge. Bessemer Bend Road is accessed via Hwy 220 just a couple miles beyond the divided portion of the highway coming from Casper. Bessemer Bend Road passes through agricultural and rural residential areas for several miles before coming to the bridge.
