Bessemer Bend to Robertson Road

Bessemer Bend to Robertson Road is a full day float that is roughly 8 miles in length. This section leaves Wyoming Hwy 220 and is similar to the Government Bridge to Sechrist float due to its more remote nature.

The beginning of this float will have you passing through river bottoms dominated by cottonwood trees. A large rock slab intersects the North Platte River at the end of the bottoms section and forces the water to the left. This is where the river changes back to its prairie surroundings. This is also where the public area starts on river left. As you approach the boat ramp at Robertson Road you will gradually see more and more houses along the river. From this point you will be entering the city of Casper, Wyoming. Each of these homeowners owns the land under the North Platte River to the middle of the river. As with any private land in Wyoming, do not anchor, beach or get out of the boat or you will be trespassing.

The public access at Bessemer Bend only continues below the bridge for a quarter mile on river left. Poison Spider Creek enters the North Platte River on the left bank at the end of the Bessemer Bend access. Once you pass Poison Spider Creek you will be floating over private land for over a mile before you come to the one and only public access on this float. This access starts on river left and several blocks downstream public access is available on river right. Both sides of the river are available to the public for about a mile before entering private property for the rest of the float.

You will be floating over private property for roughly 5 miles before getting to Robertson Road Bridge. The boat ramp is directly above the bridge on river left. Low water conditions can make access to the ramp tricky, as there is a shallow shelf upstream of the ramp. You might have to stay in the main channel until you are just above the bridge before rowing over to the ramp. Often times you will have to drag your boat to the ramp. Robertson Road is accessed from Wyoming Hwy 220 (CY Avenue). The Robertson Road intersection has the last traffic light as you leave Casper traveling westbound (toward Alcova) on Wyoming Hwy 220.
