Our Grey Reef guide boats just got off the river and everybody is pumped.  Seth, Stu, Rick and Brad all reported great fishing from Grey Reef to Gov. Bridge along with a wadefishing session at Cardwell (Fremont Canyon).  From the sounds of it, baetis were the key.  According to Stu, him and the Maydew’s never changed bugs from a cdc baetis and a pulsating emerger.  Lots of fish are keying in on baetis right now on Grey Reef.  This is a fun time to be on the Reef!  Baetis means suspended fish and light nymph rigs.  It’s always fun to watch the indicator move 2-3ft on the take and you don’t have to worry about raking bottom.  If the indicator moves, it’s a fish!

What a weekend!  Finally got some much needed snow and rain to Central Wyoming.  Despite the foul weather we had a busy weekend on the Platte.  Our guide boats fished everything from Grey Reef to Bessmer Bend.  As for the fishing, it was on fire!!!!  Nymphs, dries and streamers.  Guided angler Eric Hollenbeck from Grey Reef to Gov. Bridge and we switched over to streamers at around 9:30am and never changed back.  Goldie and HH skinny leech.  Landed lots of really nice fish, with the biggest being a 23″ bow.  Erik, Rick and Adam had the Schueler boys down below the Bridge and they spent the afternoon picking off fish on dries!!  We might be experiencing a little change in water conditions…we have a fair amount of high elevation snow and runoff.  We will keep you posted!

PLEASE READ….

We have been having issues with people misunderstanding the closed section on Grey Reef.  It is closed for the month of APRIL from cable to cable(approx. 500yds of Grey Reef) to ALL FISHING.  Please stay current with all rules and regulations, it is your responsibility as an angler.

Well, we are seeing baetis on a daily basis but we still sticking lots of fish on various leech and worm patterns.  Our guides and anglers have been spending a lot of time wadefishing the upper river…so many runs wadefish well at this water level.  The water clarity on Grey Reef  is good all the way to Casper.  We have been catching lots of nice fish below Government Bridge on streamers (Goldie, bronze bugger, medusa, etc.).  We have also sent a few trips up to the Miracle Mile and fishing has been good, just not as good as the Reef.

Well, we are 1hr and 30mins from wrapping up the 2012 spring flush.  As always, it’s done it’s job well!  The river looks great and the rainbows should have plenty of spots to spawn.  As always be considerate of the spawning fish…at the very least PLEASE do not walk through the redds.  As for the fishing…Fremont Canyon has been offering up some fantastic dry fly opportunities the past few days with baetis and midges.  Miracle Mile is still running at 2,000cfs(+/-) and our guides/anglers have been doing well on stones, leeches, eggs and worms.  As for Grey Reef we have had great conditions and great fishing this week during the flush.  The streamer fishing has been borderline on fire!  As for the Grey Reef nymph game, standard fare but we are starting to do well on an assortment of BWO patterns.

Well, the flush is working it’s magic.  Made it out on the upper briefly yesterday afternoon and the water was already a nice shade of green.  We had a blanket hatch of midges and baetis with fish eating nymphs, dries and streamers.  The river bottom is looking great and the fish are healthy.  A couple more days of the flush and it will be game on!

So we are officially done with day 1 of the spring flush on Grey Reef.  The river is muddy!!!  A combination of flushing flows and runoff from last night have turned the river a shade of tomato soup.  As always we will keep you updated.

So…we apologize for the delay, it’s been a busy week.  We have had lots of boats on the water, PRIMER trips, boat rentals, shop business, etc.  Thank you for your business!!  As for the fishing…I have been guiding quite a bit over the past week and I have to say in twelve years of working on this river-the fishing is ridiculous!!!!  Wadefishing, drifting, it does not seem to matter.  Fish are on the feed!  Yesterday we spent the day doing both and I don’t think we went longer than 5 minutes without a fish.  That’s no joke.  We fished a brown UV leech and a pulsating emerger all day.  6ft 1BB.  Had a ton of fish eat on the swing.  I would like to list all the anglers and guides who have stuck big fish the past week but it would be too long.  Our guides and guests have put countless numbers of 21″+ fish in the net with the biggest being a 26″ brown…congrats to Seth and the Sanderson boys.

Don’t forget the flush starts tomorrow at 1am.

Other than the HUGE wind event yesterday afternoon the weather has been awesome in Central Wyoming.  As for the fishing, it continues to be lights out!  We have had multiple guides on both Grey Reef and Miracle Mile the past several days and we have had some very happy guests.  The program continues to be the same as far as patterns and rigs are concerned.  Nothing much has changed on that end.  We are picking up more fish around the middle of the runs and on the drops.  PLEASE remember that we do have fish starting the spawning process… and yes we do realize that people are going to pinpoint these fish.  We do not endorse this in anyway but it is up to the angler.  At the very least DO NOT walk through the redds!   Thank you!

Flush will run each day from 1:00am to 10:00am.  It will peak at approximately 4,000cfs at 7:00am each day and will be back at 500cfs by 10:00am.  The fluctuating flows are designed to flush the fine sediment from the spawning gravel.
